Election Court Dinner 2017
The new Livery year will commence on 1st September 2017, as it has done for the past 240 years since King Charles II graciously bestowed upon the Coachmakers’ Company its Royal Charter on 31st May 1677. The Election Court meeting has in recent years been held at Tallow Chandlers’ Hall incorporating the Installation Ceremony followed by the Election Court Dinner.
In modern times at least, this event has been restricted to members of the Court and their immediate family. This year it will be different.
The Court agreed at its last meeting that the Election Court should be held in accordance with the Charter on 1st September at Tallow Chandlers’ Hall after which the Court, led by the outgoing Master, would then process to the Company church of St James, Garlickhythe. There, in a break with tradition, an Installation Service will be held led by our own Honorary Chaplain, Honorary Court Assistant the Venerable Ray Pentland CB. During this service the Master Elect will be sworn and clothed after which he will lead the Court and guests back to Tallow Chandlers’ Hall for the Election Court Dinner. And for the first time, as far as we can determine, members of the wider Livery and guests will be able to join the celebration.
The numbers are very limited due to the size and capacity of Tallow Chandlers’ Hall, therefore this opportunity is restricted to Liverymen and Freemen of the Coachmakers’ Company and one guest each.
